Come early. Make an evening of it.
We're on the top floor above Castaways in St Lawrence Gap. When you arrive, tell the Castaways hostess you're here for the magic show and they'll take it from there. The show starts at 8pm sharp, so aim for 7:30. Barbados traffic has a sense of humour.
Most people have dinner at Castaways first: oceanfront, a drink as the sun goes down, and Hans coming round to say hi to every table before the show. We'd recommend it. You'll have met him before he's fooled you.
Thirty seats. On purpose.
Every seat is close enough to watch Hans's hands. The front row is close enough to end up in the show. The stage is raised, the rows are raised, and there isn't a bad angle in the room. Close-up magic only works when the room earns it. This one was built to.
Sixty minutes, no gaps.
It's as funny as it is magical, the laughing as loud as the gasps. Things appear three feet from your face with no idea how. Someone always says something out loud they'll be embarrassed about later. Hans hosts it like he's known you for years, because by the end, he sort of has. Every season is a brand-new production, written from scratch.
Nobody's in a hurry to leave.
Hans sticks around afterwards. Ask him how something worked and he won't tell you, but you're welcome to try. The room tends to linger. If you booked a table at Castaways, head down. The bay looks good at night.
Pick your seat.
The cheapest way in, and no booking fee. It's the back, so behind a tall head it can get tricky. Come a touch early if you can.
Every seat is close, and the rows rise five inches so you're looking over the row in front, not through it.
The closest seats in the house, near enough to watch his hands at arm's length.
Add Guaranteed Stage Participation for $40, from any seat, and you're guaranteed to get pulled up for the on-stage fun. Prices in USD; cash BBD at the venue.
The new show opens Friday 18 December. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM.
Questions, answered.
The practical stuff
What time should I get there?
Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8 PM sharp. No island time. Most people come earlier for dinner or a drink at Castaways downstairs.
What if I'm running late?
We start on time, so the rest of the room isn't kept waiting. If you're running behind, WhatsApp Hans on +1 (246) 243-3122 or email post@barbadosmagiclounge.com and let us know.
Is there step-free access?
No. The theatre is on the 4th floor and there's no lift, so you need to be able to walk up three flights of stairs. Need a steady arm on the way up? Let us know and Hans will give you a hand.
Where are you, and how do I find you?
Top floor, above Castaways Restaurant in St Lawrence Gap, Christ Church. There's no sign shouting at you from the street. Tell the Castaways hostess you're here for the magic show and they'll point you up.
Is it suitable for children?
It's built for adults. Mild language, and some of the magic leans on ideas younger children haven't met yet. We recommend ages 10 and up, seated next to an adult. Every child needs their own ticket. You know your child best.
How much are tickets, and what's included?
Back row is $50 with no booking fee. General admission is $53. Front two rows (VIP) are $63. Your ticket is your seat for the 60-minute show. Drinks and dinner are extra. You can add Guaranteed Stage Participation for $40 from any seat. Prices are in USD, and you can pay cash in BBD at the venue.
Can I have dinner at Castaways too?
Yes, and we'd recommend it. Castaways has oceanfront tables over St Lawrence Bay. You can add a table before or after the show when you book your tickets.
Can I bring a drink in?
Yes. The Castaways bar is open downstairs before the show (last orders 7:50) and you're welcome to bring your drink up to the theatre.
Where do I park?
Free, in two car parks. The closest is right across the road from Castaways, and a bigger one is about 100 metres west. Don't drive into the Gap itself, or you'll loop all the way round. See the parking map →
Do I need to dress up?
No dress code. Most people make a bit of an effort because it feels like that kind of evening. Wear whatever you're comfortable in.
Is it cold in the theatre?
It can be. The lounge is air-conditioned, and a few back-row seats sit right under the unit. Bring a light layer if you feel the cold.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final, with two ways out. Tell us at least 48 hours before the show and we can move you to another date for a 20% fee, refund half your ticket, or, if the show is sold out, try to resell your seat for you (80% back if it sells). Later than that, reply to your booking email as soon as you can. If the show is sold out, we'll do our best to resell your seat, and if it sells you get 50% back. No guarantees, but we try. Full terms.
The show
How close is it, and will I be involved?
Very close, and possibly. The theatre has 30 seats. Even the back row is close enough to watch Hans's hands; the front rows are close enough that you might find a card in your pocket that wasn't there before. If you want a moment on stage guaranteed, you can add Guaranteed Stage Participation for $40 from any seat. If you'd rather just watch, sit a few rows back and enjoy it.
I've seen magic shows before. Is this different?
Depends what you've seen. If it was a big Vegas production with a cast of twelve and someone being sawn in half, then yes, this is different: smaller, funnier, closer. If it was a close-up set in a hotel bar, this is that, but with fifteen years of craft behind it and a proper theatre built for it.
Is it actually funny?
Yes. Hans spent years as a comedy MC as well as a magician. This isn't a serious evening of mysterious atmosphere. There will be laughing. Sometimes at Hans, sometimes at you.
What if I've already seen the show?
Hans writes a completely new production every season. If you saw it last year, this is a different night.
When is the next show?
The new show, Have You Seen This Man?, opens Friday 18 December 2026 and runs Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM. See dates and book →
Still have a question? Send a note and Hans gets back to you, usually within a day.
