What a night actually looks like.
From the staircase to the last trick, and the part where nobody wants to leave.
Come early. Make an evening of it.
We're on the top floor above Castaways in St Lawrence Gap. When you arrive, tell the Castaways hostess you're here for the magic show and they'll take it from there. The show starts at 8pm sharp, so aim for 7:30. Barbados traffic has a sense of humour. Most people have dinner at Castaways first: oceanfront, a drink as the sun goes down, and Hans coming round to say hi to every table before the show. We'd recommend it. You'll have met him before he's fooled you.
Thirty seats. On purpose.
Every seat is close enough to watch Hans's hands. The front row is close enough to end up in the show. The stage is raised, the rows are raised, and there isn't a bad angle in the room. Close-up magic only works when the room earns it. This one was built to.
Sixty minutes, no gaps.
It's as funny as it is magical, the laughing as loud as the gasps. Things appear three feet from your face with no idea how. Someone always says something out loud they'll be embarrassed about later. Hans hosts it like he's known you for years, because by the end, he sort of has. Every season is a brand-new production, written from scratch.
Nobody's in a hurry to leave.
Hans sticks around afterwards. Ask him how something worked and he won't tell you, but you're welcome to try. The room tends to linger. If you booked a table at Castaways, head down. The bay looks good at night.
Pick your seat.
The cheapest way in, and no booking fee. It's the back, so behind a tall head it can get tricky. Come a touch early if you can.
Every seat is close, and the rows rise five inches so you're looking over the row in front, not through it.
The closest seats in the house, near enough to watch his hands at arm's length.
Add Guaranteed Stage Participation for $40, from any seat, and you're guaranteed to get pulled up for the on-stage fun. Prices in USD; cash BBD at the venue.
Season's off until December. Join the list and you'll get the dates, and the early-bird price, before anyone.
A few honest notes.
- The theatre is on the 4th floor (three flights up if you don't count the ground floor), by staircase only, no lift. We can't offer assistance up the stairs. (Hans has offered to carry guests up. He was joking. Probably.)
- The show starts at 8pm sharp. Arrive by 7:30 to get settled. Doors close 10 minutes before, and we don't hold the start for latecomers. This isn't island time.
- Grab a drink at the Castaways bar and bring it up. Last orders by 7:50 so everyone's seated in time.
- The lounge is air-conditioned. Bring a light layer if you feel the cold. Magic chills are fun; air-con chills less so.
- All sales are final. If something comes up, reply to your booking email as soon as you can and we'll do our best to resell your seat. No guarantees, but we try. Full terms apply.
- Crafted for adults: mild language, and some of the magic leans on ideas younger children haven't met yet. We recommend ages 10 and up, seated next to an adult. But you know your child best.
A brand-new production opens this December.
Every season is a completely new production, written from scratch. Even if you've been before, you haven't seen this one. Thirty seats a night, and the list hears first.
